Happy Monday!!  At the moment, we have been learning to write poems in writing.  We have begun to look at how words can rhyme and be part of 'word families'.  A PERFECT place to start to learn this, is to read Dr Seuss books ... which is what we have been doing!  Today we finished our 'Cat in the Hat' hats ... your children worked really hard on these and I think they just look fantastic.  In relation to this, if your child has any Dr Seuss books at home OR any other 'rhyming' books such as Hairy Maclary that they would like to share with us, please get them to bring them along to school so we can read them together.  Thank you!

Balloon Badminton

Hello there everyone!  We have had a great 3 days back at school after a wonderful Show weekend.  It's so hard to believe that there are only 3 and a half more weeks to go until the end of the term AND the year - time is just flying past.

We have a very busy 3 and a half weeks ahead of us.  On Wednesday, we started 'Balloon Badminton'.  An instructor from Sport Canterbury is teaching lessons to all of the Rutherford and Sheppard teams.  We are going to be doing this for 4 weeks and on Wednesday it was amazing!  We went with Room 1 for our session and the children learnt to pat the balloon up in the air whilst keeping it under control and then they moved on to hitting it with their hands like a bat.  They all just loved it!

I realise that I didn't get photos of all of the children from Room 3 - I will try to do better next week :)

WRAP UP OF WEEK 5

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Show weekend!  

Last week we had another great week swimming at Wharenui Pool.  On Thursday we didn't have any formal lessons as the children had a safety day.  They got to use life jackets, practice jumping into deep water, practice what to do when confronted with big waves AND ... the most popular activity by far was to go in the life boat.  The children all had a wonderful time!

And then, most importantly, the boys did their hair ..............

This week we have another busy week.

On Wednesday we are beginning 'Balloon Badminton' along with the rest of the Rutherford Team and also the Sheppard Team.  Our time slot is 9.45-10.00 with Room 1 so your child will just need to come to school as per usual in their sports gear and then they will get changed at the normal time - just before lunch.

On Thursday we have our school photos so please dress your child in their full school uniform to come to school in.  We don't have a timetable as yet and with siblings photos to be taken, probably around lunchtime, your child won't need their sports gear on this day.

BENEDICT MUFTI DAY TOMORROW!!!

Just a wee reminder that it is a mufti day tomorrow for Benedict House as a reward for winning the house points competition last week.  Well done Benedict!

SWIM WEEK IS NEARLY OVER!!!!

Hello there everyone!  I just cannot believe how much progress your children have been making over the past couple of weeks in their swimming!  Today in particular, I was thinking back to what they were doing last Monday (our first day) and then looking at what they are able to do now.  It has been such a wonderful time at Wharenui.  Tomorrow is our last day of instructional lessons as Thursday is going to be all about water safety - a big boat is going to be out, no goggles are needed, so it's sounding like it's going to be a really fun day.
